Artist's Description

The River.
This image was produced using a technique that resulted from a collaboration between a friend and I while she was in school - I dug out the old camera and tried it again many years later and this was one result.
The technique involves winding *film* through an old SLR Canon while the aperture is open (locked on B), while panning the riverbank. We called them "stripshots." While the outcome is always unknown, you can get certain controls by altering winding and panning speeds and other things - the whole thing is tricky trial and error.
In this case, the ethereal feel it gives a rather mundane setting adds a mystery to the image.
I later used it as the cover for a "self-published" novel 'Fade to Light' that has never been sold or hardly seen by anyone!

About Mark Berman

Mark Berman

Hello, I have been a photographer since I was a teenager (a long time ago!), mostly in central Ohio, USA. I started out with an all-manual 35mm Canon SLR and shot with all variety of negative and transparency films. I love to make composite double-exposures in the camera, and get it to do other things you have to trick the technology for. I worked in darkrooms BW and color, and am an advanced Photoshop editor, and that has shifted some of my emphasis to realism (tricks are too easy now!). Now my photography focuses mostly on Nature and Animals - okay, Bugs! I hope you enjoy these images and wish to own one or give one as a gift, and please contact me if you have questions. Thank you!
